Beginner's Guide to Deadwood Invertebrates Course at Chelsea Physic Garden
Have you ever rolled over a log and wondered about the tiny invertebrates scuttling away? Or have you been turning your compost and wondered what life was living within it? Do you want to learn about the importance of beetles, woodlice, centipedes, millipedes and springtails?
As part of the Garden’s ongoing biodiversity audit, this workshop offers a chance to join the Garden’s Consultant Ecologist, Connor Butler, for a hands-on session uncovering the hidden world of deadwood invertebrates at Chelsea Physic Garden.
We’ll explore:
• How to find and safely examine deadwood invertebrates
• The vital role of decaying wood in supporting biodiversity
• How to identify beetles, millipedes, woodlice, and other decomposers
• The fascinating life cycles of saproxylic (deadwood-dependent) species
• How to use a field guide and identification key
