Beginner's Guide to Flying Insects Course at Chelsea Physic Garden
Are you interested in insects and want to know more about them? Do you want to tell a hoverfly from a wasp or identify the different bumblebees?
Over the upcoming year, the Garden is undertaking a comprehensive biodiversity audit to catalogue all species present within its walls. This workshop offers an opportunity to accompany the Garden's Consultant Ecologist, Connor Butler for a practical session catching and identifying flying insects at Chelsea Physic Garden.
We’ll explore:
• How to safely catch and observe flying insects
• How to identify different species of bees, butterflies, wasps, beetles and flies
• The different habitats that each of these groups require
• How to use a field guide and identification key
No prior experience is needed, just a passion or interest in learning more about wildlife.
When you arrive:
- Please have your ticket ready - printed or on your device - before you arrive.
- Entrance will be via 66 Royal Hospital Road.

Please note:
Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and must remain under close supervision as there is deep water and numerous poisonous plants.
Registered support dogs are welcome in the Garden, no other pets are allowed.
Unfortunately we cannot look after your luggage and we don't have any cloakroom facilities at the Garden.
There are a couple of council bike racks on Royal Hospital Road, unfortunately we do not have racks in the Garden due to lack of space and we can't look after your bicycle for you.
