Paul Dawkins has been part of British reggae since 1976, when he joined Tradition in Brent, one of the first UK reggae bands to sign to a major label. Alongside backing artists including Alton Ellis and Delroy Wilson on tour, Tradition built a reputation as one of the most musically serious bands on the circuit. In 2017 Dawkins was recognised alongside Janet Kay and Carroll Thompson at the British Black Music Awards for five decades of contribution to lovers rock, which places him in the founding generation of the genre. His solo catalogue includes "To Love Someone", "Is There a Place" and "Natural Woman", songs that have stayed in the lovers rock repertoire long after many of his contemporaries have been forgotten.
Paulette Tajah came to public attention in 1983 with her version of Deniece Williams' "'Cause You Love Me Baby", recorded under the Raiders label after a referral to producer Sir Lloyd. She went on to work with Mad Professor at Ariwa and produced an album of lovers rock classics, Happy Memories. Now celebrating forty years in the reggae industry, her catalogue spans lovers rock, soul, gospel and R&B, with fans returning to "Paradise", "With You Boy" and "Jealousy" as consistently as they did when they were first released.
The Zaine Band backs both artists, and John McLean, whose own "If I Gave My Heart to You" spent nine weeks at number one on Ariwa, hosts the evening. Two voices, one band and forty-plus years of British reggae between them done properly.
The venue features a refined restaurant, four exclusive private dining rooms, the distinguished 1st Floor Bar, an extensive whisky and wine selection, a sophisticated Cigar Lounge and an inviting Heated Garden Terrace - making it a haven for discerning patrons seeking the finest in dining, music and atmosphere. On weekends, the vibrant first-floor bar and terrace come to life with DJ Nights, adding another dimension to the Boisdale experience.
