Chicago-native pianist Greg Spero is joined by an all star band to play his Spirit Fingers compositions; a complex original kind of music in the jazz fusion spectrum that was originally conceived as an antidote to the musical banality of Spero touring with pop singer Halsey.
The sound combines the very best of early 70s jazz fusion (complete with ambitious tempo shifts and key changes), hip-hop, pop, and modern funk. Despite complexity of the material, this music manages to be lyrical, emotional and engaging.
Greg Spero and the London cohort of the band, featuring some of London’s top young instrumentalists, Lox (drums), Ben Glasser (bass) and Matt May (guitar), bring this globally recognised innovative wave of jazz fusion to The Jazz Cafe this March.
The show is not just a performance but also a celebration of the jazz’s potential future; the complex fusion of traditional jazz’s depth, classical’s composition, RnB’s soul, and pop music’s emotional vibrance.
