More information about Motown Memoirs tickets
Motown Records produced more number one singles between 1961 and 1971 than any other label in history. Berry Gordy built Hitsville USA on an $800 loan and turned it into the most successful independent record label of the twentieth century. The songs that came out of that building in Detroit, "My Girl", "Dancing in the Street", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "I Want You Back", "What's Going On" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", are not nostalgia. They are the architecture of popular music and they still work in a room.
Presented by Major Tones Music and Entertainment, Motown Memoirs fields a six-piece live band with three vocalists across two 45-minute sets. The repertoire covers the full width of the label: Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, the Temptations and Mary Wells. That is not a greatest hits selection, that is the whole story of what Motown actually was.
The arrangements stay close to the originals, which is the right decision. This music was produced to a standard that rewards faithful reproduction. A live rhythm section and three vocalists doing it properly is all it needs.
The venue features a refined restaurant, four exclusive private dining rooms, the distinguished 1st Floor Bar, an extensive whisky and wine selection, a sophisticated Cigar Lounge and an inviting Heated Garden Terrace - making it a haven for discerning patrons seeking the finest in dining, music and atmosphere. On weekends, the vibrant first-floor bar and terrace come to life with DJ Nights, adding another dimension to the Boisdale experience.
