Following a series of breathtaking performances at prestigious European festivals, headline shows across 10 countries, and a tour across Germany and Czechia alongside dark-electro pioneers Project Pitchfork, tAngerinecAt is set to return to the UK to celebrate the release of their new album, Grief.

Originating in Ukraine and residing in North Wales, tAngerinecAt embodies a rich tapestry of musical influences that intertwine West and East. The duo conveys a strong anti-war, anti-fascist, and anti-ecocide message, where the hauntingly intimate allure of dark jazz a cappella coexist with the fierce energy of hammering industrial electronic beats and poignant spoken word. It reflects the profound mastery of Ukrainian-born Zhenia Purpurovsky, a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, arranger, conductor, and actor, in partnership with the visionary sound designer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Chilton who hails from Britain. With a degree in folkloristics, Purpurovsky adeptly juggles rich cultural symbols, creating a tapestry of meaning.

'Grief' emerges as a masterfully crafted concoction of free-spirited, underground resistance brewed in a cauldron of haunting Twin Peaks-esque soundscapes and cathartic revelations, while shifting between languages. Even with its bleak undertones, this work evokes themes of hope, love, unity, and beauty, providing a counterpoint to escapism by embracing reality and navigating through despair to discover pathways to liberation.

Grief is love.

'I’ve never heard anything quite like this... Chilling and Unsettlingly Beautiful... It’s Stunning'

  • Adam Walton, BBC Wales, BBC Music Introducing with Adam Walton

'The outfit fuses electronica and drone with industrial flourishes and beautifully dark songwriting… If it doesn’t get your blood pumping then you may as well check yourself into the crematorium…’

  • Louder Than War

'Your music is always a magical ritual for me. Glass was a wilder ritual, sometimes even bloodier, a dance on broken glass, but Grief is a different magic, the magic of a hermit, the depths of the sea, cold rocks and a ruined lonely church, in whose bells the wind still blows.Yes, that’s exactly what it sounds like, as if you literally took your heart out of your chest - literally a bare heart, blood, history, everything just screams.'

  • Marvoy, Prague

'It's as if you're someone calling out from ancient times. From the era of the first civilisations, the search for the first shelter, the first home, the first love, the first kiss, the first sex, the first fire. INCREDIBLE!'

  • Sahin Cetin, Ancara

Special guest: RobinPlaysChords

Robin Jax, through his solo work as RobinPlaysChords, one-half of the transatlantic duo The Companions, and founder of Tiergarten Records, has spent years trying to come to some sort of reckoning with the person he was, the person he could have been, and the person he wanted to become. Live performances saw him don an actual mask - a filter through which he could project songs previously rooted in an extremely internalised headspace. Six years on from the fantastical Teardrop Girl-Star LP, a post-apocalyptic dreaming of an album, 2023's Unmasking marked the first major evolution of RobinPlaysChords’ musical direction. It is an album of geography, humanity, flesh, blood and bone, tempered by world events that have proven that reality is stranger than fiction.

RobinPlaysChords has previously supported artists such as Kathryn Joseph, Clementine Valentine (fka Purple Pilgrims), Alabaster dePlume, Thomas Truax and Camilla Sparksss, along with performance roles in multi-disciplinary shows by Room Art and Spectra Arts Company, singing in a choir alongside Wolfgang Buttress' BE Music (and 50,000 bees) in Coventry Cathedral and regular contributions to The Shining Tongues, the project of The Infinite Three's Dan Knowler.

"Unmasking is a revealing insight into the artist’s world, backed up with lush tunes and atmospheric, varied, musical landscapes" - Louder Than War

"Aching pop songs that are lovingly sculpted and centered on yearning vocals and deeply personal lyrics" - Bandcamp New & Notable
