William The Conqueror, the critically acclaimed, shape-shifting trio from Cornwall, have quietly established themselves as one of the UK’s most vital underground bands. Rooted in groove driven alt-rock and steeped in the storytelling traditions of folk and Americana, their sound is equal parts fuzz and finesse and has seen them tour with everyone from Bright Eyes to Nathaniel Ratliffe and Wilco, making records with Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Laura Marling) and Joseph Lorge (Phoebe Bridgers, Perfume Genius) along the way.
Now several albums deep, and never content to stand still, William The Conqueror continue to evolve — a band shaped by the road, sharpened in the studio, and sustained by a stubborn belief in the redemptive power of a great song, well played.
Latest album "Maverick Thinker" (Chrysalis Records) has been described as "a record of cuts and bruises, wrapped within bittersweet leftfield rock n roll tunes; short, sharp shots to the arm; fuzzy college rock with chops, one foot lingering menacingly over the distortion pedal."
Recorded in LA at the infamous Sound City Studios, the trio rattled through the album's ten tunes at a breakneck speed - the energy and chaos nods to some of the US lo-fi greats and yet arrives at something innately British.
