Venue Information
The Dominion Theatre, nestled at the intersection of Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street, is a true West End landmark. First opening in 1929, this grand Grade II-listed venue was designed by W. & T. R. Milburn in a bold Art Deco style, with a striking stone façade and dramatic curved frontage. Originally built as a live performance venue, the Dominion quickly embraced the golden age of cinema, becoming one of London's premier destinations for film screenings and premieres. A major restoration between 2014 and 2017 preserved its traditional architecture while adding modern upgrades, like a new stage, improved backstage areas, and the West End's largest double-sided LED screen.
Throughout its long and varied history, the Dominion has hosted some of London's most beloved stage productions. From the record-breaking We Will Rock You, which played to packed houses for over 12 years, to hit musicals like Grease, Beauty and the Beast, Elf the Musical, The Bodyguard, and The Prince of Egypt. The legacy of Queen still lives on at the venue with a dedicated 'Freddie Mercury Suite'. The Dominion has also welcomed music royalty, including David Bowie, Dolly Parton and Duran Duran.
The theatre's roots run deep into London's past, quite literally, as it was built on the site of the former Horse Shoe Brewery, which was the source of the infamous 1814 London Beer Flood! In 1938, the theatre made history with the world's first public demonstration of colour TV. In 1986, during the sci-fi musical Time, the entire auditorium was painted black to heighten the ground-breaking special effects, which included a hologram of Sir Laurence Olivier.
